Changes to fill day behaviour in 21.2

Original Fill Day behaviour introduced in 19.1 is outlined in our tip, Automatically Create Breaks When Using Fill Day.

With the release of 20.1, there were changes to default ‘fill day’ behaviour with early legacy behaviour around lunch breaks being removed.

E.g. prior to 20.1, if a user’s roster was set up 8:30am to 5pm (8.5 hours) with a daily minimum of 7.5 hours and the user had no lunch breaks setup then by default when using “fill day” a break would be entered between 12 – 1pm.

In 20.1, if users have no breaks set against their roster then when using “fill day” no break will be inserted.

With the release of 21.2, the setting ‘Automatically create breaks when using fill day’ has been renamed to ‘Time Entry Fill Day Behaviour’ and three new fill day behaviours have been introduced:

  • Use Roster Day
  • Use Roster Day (Automatic Breaks)
  • Use Daily Minimum (Preferred)

Use Daily Minimum (Preferred)

The Daily Minimum has been set as the Preferred option set by default.

With a Roster set up 8.30am to 5.00pm (8.5 hours) with a daily minimum of 7.5 hours:

If you are using Fill Day;

  • Billable and Non Billable Time Entries will display breaks if these have been set against the Roster or Personal Breaks.
  • Non Productive Time Entries will not have any breaks included and the time entry will now be shortened by the break duration.

When the roster doesn’t have breaks:

All three Time Entry categories display from 8.30am to 5.00pm with no breaks.

When the roster has breaks:

Billable and Non Billable have the Breaks from Roster set by default, where Non Productive does not;

Billable and Non Billable Time Entries will display with this break and Non Productive without;

When the user has personalised breaks:

See more information on Personalised Breaks here (available for Professional users only)

Billable and Non Billable have the Breaks from Personal Breaks set by default, where Non Productive does not;

With these flowing through to the calendar.  Noting that the Non Productive displays as 8.30am to 4.30pm;

Use Roster Day

When the roster doesn’t have breaks:

The Break panel is not available against the Time Entries;

With all Time Entry categories displaying as the Roster Day Hours;

When the roster has breaks:

Breaks will appear by default for Billable and Non Billable Time Entries:

And disabled by default but available for selection for Non Productive Time Entries;

With this flowing through to the Calendar:

When the user has personalised breaks:

See more information on Personalised Breaks here (available for Professional users only)

The Breaks are automatically enabled for Non Billable and Non Productive and not enabled default but nonetheless available for selection for Non Productive;

With this following through to the Calendar;

Use Roster Day (Automatic Breaks)

For all Time Entries, the Breaks Panel does not display:

When the roster doesn’t have breaks:

All Time Entries are set to the Roster Hours;

When the roster has breaks:

The Roster 30min lunch break is enabled for each Time Entry category;

When the user has personal breaks:

See more information on Personalised Breaks here (available for Professional users only)

The Personal Breaks are enabled for each Time Entry category;
